Debt // Taking Back Control

I worry so much about money… how can I get out of debt? what am I doing to help do that? how can I cut back on spending? why do I keep getting myself further behind?

What am I doing to do to get myself out of debt? I want to let go of this burden.

Romans 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love on another..

Action Items:

  1. Access my Finances
  2. Make a Budget
  3. Communicate it with someone
  4. Reign in Spending and Take a Break
  5. Stick to your Goals and Give them Time
  6. Learn to Say NO

#1 Access my finances– I use google calendar to put all my bills in. It helps me keep organized. I have a list of everything that comes out of my bank account for “bills”

  • tithing
  • bank account fee
  • cell phone
  • netflix
  • investment
  • car loan
  • student loan
  • personal loan

This allows me to keep track of when my payments come out. I always make sure my bills are all paid before anything else.

#2 Make a Budget– this one is harder because I have a budget for for bills but I not for anything else. I need help in this area. Making a budget for food, gas, and any other expenses.

#3 Communicate it with someone– my goal is to find someone who can keep me accountable with my spending.

#4 Reign in Spending & Take a Break– I plan on doing a no spend month for the month of February. This will be very challenging but well worth it if I can save money to help pay off my debt sooner. If all goes well, I will try to do it a few times a year.

#5 Stick to your Goals & Give them time– give it a try… don’t give up… have patience…

#6 Learn to Say NO– this is one of the hardest for me. I always like going out for meals with friends and go for coffee. One step I can take is, by saying no to myself. Every Saturday I enjoy going to the local coffee shop to spending time reading, & doing my devotions, but I can do that from home. It costs me about $14 to go for breakfast and with not going I can save $56 a month. WOW, that’s a lot. I can save that and put it towards a bill instead. Learning to say NO to myself will be much harder than saying no to anyone else. Before I spend any money, I need to asses the situation. Do I really need that? What benefit will this have?

This all starts now. I’m taking back control of my finances…
