So Much to Learn…

Wednesday I took a fast from watching tv and from social media. Sometimes you need a break from the things that are distracting you from what’s important. I did this so I could spend more time with God. It was a hard day. I wanted to check facebook all the time just because I was bored. I made it through without being on social media or watching tv.

The hardest part for me was actually taking the time to spend with God. I did my readings for the day and read a chapter or two in my book. But I didn’t really spend time with God, which was the whole point of my fast. Instead of going to God in prayer I went to bed. Even though it was 7pm, I felt bored so I went to bed instead.

This was only the first time doing this and I have SO MUCH to learn. I need give up myself to God and allow him to do a work in me. Fasting doesn’t come easy and it’s something you have to work at.

Matthew 16:24-25

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

  1. This is a great idea! I’ve been finding myself scrolling through Facebook and Instagram, then closing the apps just to go back on them less than 10 seconds later.
It’s also good to hear that I’m not the only one who forgets to just spend time with God. I often think that other people have it all together and I’m just the odd person out who needs it just grow up.
Maybe I’ll force myself off of Social media for a day or two, or make one day a week a social media fast!

    1. We are not alone, I am sure there are lots of people in the same boat as us. We can’t let social media to control us, and right now I feel like it’s starting to control me. So I need to do something about it.
I will be doing the fast again tomorrow!
