What is Lent? (according to wikipedia)

The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayerpenancerepentance of sins, almsgivingatonement and self-denial. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the tradition and events of the New Testament beginning on Friday of Sorrows, further climaxing on Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday, which ultimately culminates in the joyful celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today is the first day of Lent also know as Ash Wednesday. It goes until Easter and you have Sunday’s off.

I have participated in lent before by fasting from Facebook and giving up of pop. I had not done well with fasting from Facebook. I only lasted about a week and a half (I think). Although fasting from social media is a great way to get rid of the distractions that keep us from Jesus Christ. I need manage my time way better by spending more time in God’s word and enjoying the people around me.

I also gave up pop for lent, which I managed to do. YAY! Pop is something I tend to crave quite often so giving it up again would be a smart thing to do.

This year I have come up with a few different ideas of what I want to give up.

1- TV (including netflix)
         Spend More Time On:

  • digging into the word of God
  • devotions
  • reading books (novels & spiritual)

2- Pop only drink Water

  • giving up something I crave

3- Snacking after Supper

  • be healthier
  • have more energy
  • giving up something I crave
This is going to be hard but I know I can do it. I am going to need people to keep me accountable so I don’t stray from what I have set out to do.
I encourage you all to think about giving up something that keeps you from God and do something that you will bring you closer to God. Whether it be a social media fast or giving up something you crave. Do something that will be worthwhile. God only wants what’s best for you.
